Rockin' the Interview was performed live at Simone DeSousa Gallery, Detroit, MI, 2016, in dialogue with my solo exhibition Truing.

The performance conveys the destabilizing and potentially damaging reality for those attempting to re/enter the workforce while caregiving in a patriarchal system that is unsupportive (or limited, at best) of caregivers. I fabricated a "rocking ladder" sourcing the ladder from a local bloke who sells used wooden ladders from his backyard in Detroit.

Black & white 16mm film clips are from Climbing, 2021, a collaboration with experimental filmmaker Julia Yesbick, supported by Kresge Arts in Detroit. Audio in Climbing is a combination of the rocking ladder's squeak as I move around it, and the sound of Yesbick scratching letters onto the film in post-production.
